Making Ice water extractions aka (Bubble Hash) Is Fun Easy And Anyone can do it!
The Process of making Ice water Extractions aka (Bubble Hash) is a fairly easy one literally anyone can do it! Before I get started I would like to say a few things and give a few tips before starting, First thing I would like to say is if you grow your own organic cannabis using zero pesticides you will get the absolute best results when making your bubble hash, And if your a grower you also have the choice of using your trim or your buds If you do not grow your own you will probably have to use buds assuming you didn’t get trim from a grower just note that there is more work involved when using buds because you have to further break down those buds and with trim your ready to go! Another thing you want to remember is to make sure the material you are using was put in the freezer 24 hours or more before making your bubble hash this will freeze the trichomes and help them fall of the plant material. And last but not least working with cold water at all times and working in a cold environment will make life easier and give you the best results! things will get too sticky and messy otherwise. Let’s Make Some Hash!
Things You will Need
- Frozen Plant Material (Trim/Flower) If you are using 5 gallon bubble bags you want to wash at least 3 Oz and up to 1/2 Pound to make it worth the time & labor.
- 5 Gallon Bubble Bags
- At least one 5 Gallon Bucket If Using
- Pressing Screen (comes with bubble bags)
- Handheld Sprayer
- Piece of cardboard
- Cold Spoons ( For collecting hash )
- A large spoon for mixing
- Clean Cold Water & Ice ( Quantity will depend on how much your washing and how many runs you do)
My Method
- First thing you want to do is start layering you bubble bags in your 5 gallon bucket in the following order ..First 25 Micron (Purple) Then work your way up 45 micron (White) , 73 micron (Yellow) , 90 micron ( Black ) , 120 micron ( Orange ) , 160 micron ( Red ) , 190 micron ( Green ) , 220 micron ( Blue ) This will be your work bag. This order is assuming you have the 8 bag bubble bag set, if your using 5 or 4 bag bubble bag set you will still follow order just leaving bags out you do not have. Bag order example at top right.
- Second get your pressing screen you will use this to put collected hash on top of. Sit your pressing screen it on top a piece of cardboard as seen in example A the cardboard will help soak up excess water from collected hash. Put the spoons you plan on collecting hash with in freezer at this time as well this will make collection of hash much easier.
- Next you will want to start by layering and alternating inside your bubble bags Ice then plant material, ice then plant material repeat until all your material is in the bag then top with ice one more time then add you water and let soak for for 5 minutes. You want to add enough water that the ice is still pretty easy to stir if it is to hard to mix add more water until you find your sweet spot. You want to be able to mix without beating the material up to much. Give everything a quick good mix after it has sat for time mentioned and let sit for for 5 more minutes again. This will allow material to have the time re-hydrate thoroughly.
- After your material has been thoroughly re-hydrated then you want to start gently mixing you do not want to be to rough you only want to help the trichomes fall off by agitating them in cold super cold water you will want to continue mixing sometimes alternating directions for 10 to 15 minutes for your first run this will be the best quality run. Remember not to mix to hard hard mixing will result with chlorophyll getting into your hash giving it a green color with awful smell and taste. If your starting to see a lot of bubbles while mixing it could be an indicator that you are mixing to hard and beating the material up to much.
- After you are done mixing starting with the work bag you will lift up and let all the water drain into bucket that you have bags in once water is drained set aside somewhere clean this is what I use a second 5 gallon bucket for . Also take the next bag 190 micron (green) and wash out and set aside this is just a clean up bag remember to let all the water drain into you bag bucket before setting aside.
- Next bag you will pull up is the 160 micron (Red) let all the water drain, Then use your hand held sprayer and spray the inside of your bags so the hash on the sides run down the bag to screen on the bottom of your bubble bags this will insure you are collecting everything in your bag then spray hash directly with sprayer for a few seconds to a minute this will clean the hash let water fully drain again then collect the hash from the bottom of your bag using your cold spoons and put hash on your pressing cloth to dry after you have collected all your hash from the bag clean your bag right away this is very important then set aside somewhere clean. repeat this process with every bag until you are done. you can clean your bag by turning inside out and spraying off into your work bucket so you do not lose any trichomes.
- Your next bag you will pull up will be your 120 micron ( Orange ) This will be the first collection of great quality hash.
- The next bag 90 micron ( Black ) This will be Incredible top quality hash.
- Next will be your 73 micron bubble bag ( Yellow ) This is going to be your Prime quality hash.
- the next up will be your 45 micron bubble bag ( White ) This is your secondary quality hash.
- And last but not least the 25 micron bag ( Purple ) This is also considered food grade.
- After you have collected all your hash from each of the bubble bags you can repeat this process all over again up to six times if you wish I myself prefer to only do 3 to 4 washes . Note That with every wash the hash will slowly degrade with the first 3 washes being the best. Also remember to add 5 to 10 minutes of mixing time to each wash so if your first wash was mixed for 10 minutes then your second wash should be washed for 15 or 20 minutes I usually base time off the number of washes I plan on doing.
